The Technical Writer position is responsible for creating technical documentation for OPEX products. This documentation will support of both OPEX employees and customers. The Technical Writer will use written instructions, functional illustrations, photographs, parts and schematic diagrams to develop procedures. The procedures will cover topics such as safety, operation, repair and replacement, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Produce technical manuals for new OPEX products, including manuals for operation, installation, maintenance, parts and software.
Update existing OPEX product manuals.
Create service bulletins and retrofit notices in support of all OPEX products serviced in the field.
Create customer- and partner-level documents detailing software releases and upgrades for various OPEX products.
Work closely with support engineers and technical trainers to provide product-related technical knowledge and expertise to the target audience.
Assist technical trainers in creation of content for classroom instruction.
Collaborate with OPEX University web developers in creation and review of online classes; to include capturing video and providing technical content expertise.
Other projects as assigned.
Qualifications or Job Requirements
Associate's Degree in Electronics and/or equivalent in a Technical or Engineering related field.
2+ years in a service related position that requires mechanical, electronic and PC troubleshooting skills.
2+ years of technical writing experience.
Proficient with Adobe FrameMaker, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro.
Proficient with Autodesk Inventor.
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and technical accuracy is a plus.
Work and contribute within a team environment.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge of ISO Standards, European Regulations and Directives as it applies to Technical publications is a plus.
Familiarity with OPEX products is a plus.
Possessing a driver's license, insurance and a reliable vehicle.
Occasional travel to customer sites.
