We are looking for a self-starting, dynamic editorial assistant to support our growing team based in New York.

Purpose of role: To provide administrative and organisational support to the editorial team. It’s a new and growing team so a flexible, can-do approach is essential. You will work closely with the Digital Managing Editor and admin team in the UK but will be required to take responsibility and develop the role along with the team. This is a great opportunity for someone with journalistic ambitions to get experience and make connections within a major organisation.

Key accountabilities:

  • Help support editorial teams as required, including new starters, rotas, processing holiday requests, organising travel.
  • Assist teams in communications with technology, facilities etc e.g. Helping reporters solve problems claiming casual shifts and expenses.

  • Help manage the processing of payments for stories and to staff, freelancers, agencies etc, working with the UK team to ensure compliance requirements are met.

  • Help to manage recruitment including posting of job adverts, organising responses and interviews, setting up new starters and arranging onboarding and training.

  • Organise team events and training.

  • Help to manage workflow for the team, keeping shared documents up to date and in line with UK changes.

  • Assist journalists with stories, doing research tasks, pitching ideas and writing where possible.

  • Key Skills and Experience:

  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • An ability to adapt to a changing work environment as required.

  • Punctual and is always prepared to put in extra time and effort where necessary.

  • Able to work off own initiative or as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft office packages, especially Word and Excel and of Google mail.

  • Highly organised with strong literacy skills.

  • Personable, professional and a confident communicator.
