I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

The Technical Producer will be responsible for designing and directing the look and feel of newscasts and local programming for Western Mass News. The Technical Producer oversees

the operation of the Ignite automation system and will execute live newscasts and special projects from that terminal. This position coordinates the successful completion of 'start to finish' daily work-flow. The Technical Producer also performs non-linear editing of

promotion and news elements, enters graphics into show rundowns using MOS, and creates pre-production elements.

The Technical Producer must have a working knowledge of the operation of a broadcast television station. Experience directing live television news is required. Technical Producer must possess strong communication and problem solving skills as well as be flexible, willing to adapt, and solution oriented in a climate of constant change. 

Must be willing to work long or unusual hours, weekends, holidays and other duties as needed.

II. Essential Job Functions

Weight % Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

50% Mastery of Grass Valley Ignite System and VIZ-RT Trio Operations. 

25% Meet daily with Content Producers to dissect newscast or other show in detail.

25% Work closely with Director of Broadcast Operations and Design team to manage “look” of newscasts and local programs.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.


Must minimally possess a high school diploma or equivalent plus some technical training or equivalent experience. 

College degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field is strongly preferred.


At least 2 – 3 years experience directing live newscasts

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Successful Technical Producer must understand all facets of television production including but not limited to

Automated Control Room Systems (especially Grass Valley Ignite), VizRT, Avid Capture, iNews, Corio, K2 and

Robotic Camera Systems. Experience with Jib camera is also a plus. Possess strong communication and problem

solving skill. Positive attitude and teamwork is a must
