JOB SUMMARYKPLC-TV in Lake Charles seeks a motivated and dynamic sports and news MMJ to join our team. Successful candidate must be a proven leader who is motivated and passionate about storytelling. Ideal candidate must be an effective communicator who excels in reporting both sports and news. The ability to cultivate sources and produce enterprise stories is a must. Applicant must have a love for local news, a passion for creative storytelling, and a positive attitude. Candidate must possess strong live reporting skills and be driven by breaking news. The successful candidate must also be proficient on all digital platforms and meet mandated social media goals outlined by management. Anchoring experience is also encouraged as the position allows for fill-in opportunities on the sports desk. Driving is required for this position. College degree in Journalism or related field is required. Responsibilities include but are not limited to generating story ideas, setting up interviews, shooting and editing stories, covering live sporting events and news conferences, gathering news content, assisting with breaking news, and writing broadcast and digital versions of stories. Also maintain professional social media accounts and assist producers on showcasing stories. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES-Field reporting in sports-Fill-in as sports anchor as needed-Help coordinate high school football coverage and show-Shoot, write and edit stories and sports highlights with an emphasis on covering local sports-Write and post stories on multiple social media and digital platforms-Report live from various sporting events-Assist news team on various stories as needed-Help gather news content and assist with breaking newsRequirements:
• The ideal candidate will have or be working towards a degree in Journalism or related field• Previous work or internship in journalism is a plus• Someone who can identify great video and compelling sound bytes• Have solid news judgment, excellent communication skills and the ability to write clearly and concisely• Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task in a fast-paced environment• Must have a good driving record• Must have good writing skills• Flexibility with respect to scheduling and/or assigned work shiftsExperience in shooting and editing own stories, and a college degree in journalism or related field is required along with a drug screen and MVR.
