Summary

You will serve as an Engineering Technician in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.

* This position may be designated Critical Acquisition Position (CAP). You must be a member of the Acquisition Corps, become a member, or obtain a waiver at the time of selection and sign a three-year tenure agreement prior to assuming the position.
* Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) may be required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
* You may be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
* Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. Those selected for a supervisory position will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

* Warrant authority above the small purchase threshold may be required.

Qualifications

GS-05: Your resume have at least three years of general experience that includes one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assisting with engineering technician services during the design, construction, testing or overhaul of systems or components.

GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector gathering data assisting with the development of plans, specifications or estimates during the design, construction, testing or overhaul of systems or components.

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector gathering data assisting with the development of plans, specifications or estimates during the design, construction, testing or overhaul of systems or components.

GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector developing plans, specifications and estimates during the design, construction, testing, maintenance or overhaul of systems and components.

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector developing plans, specifications and estimates during the design, construction, testing, maintenance or overhaul of systems and components.

GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector investigating problems arising during the design, construction, testing, maintenance or overhaul of systems and components.

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector investigating problems arising during the design, construction, testing, maintenance or overhaul of systems and components.

GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing engineering technician services to analyze technical problems arising during the design, construction, testing, maintenance or overhaul of systems and components.

GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector analyzing and applying methods and techniques to resolve technical problems arising during the design, construction, testing, maintenance or overhaul of systems and components.

GS-14: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector approving methods and techniques used in resolving technical problems arising during the design, construction, testing, maintenance or overhaul of systems and components.

GS-15: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector managing technical projects during the design, construction, testing, maintenance or overhaul of systems and components.

Education

Applicants may substitute education for experience in the following situations:

GS-05 (or equivalent pay band): You resume must show successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.

* OR-

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree which includes at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization.

GS-07 (or equivalent pay band): Successfully completed one full year of graduate level education that is directly related to the position being filled OR successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement.

GS-08 (or equivalent pay band): Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education OR successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the position being filled.

GS-09 (or equivalent pay band): Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education OR successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the position being filled.

GS-10 (or equivalent pay band): Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree OR successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

GS-11 (or equivalent pay band): Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree OR successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

NOTE: Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.

NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
