Job Summary

The Sales Compensation Manager is responsible for the management and professional development of the sales compensation analysts and offshore resources with the objective of driving sales compensation efficiency and effectiveness for more than 40 distinct sales incentive plans that impact 400+ sales professionals within the Avantor lab business. This position requires in depth knowledge of Avantor lab business and financial acumen. This position will also ensure consistency in process, policy and administration, with a focus on creating continuous improvement to the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of sales incentive plan management to enhance the service level to the Avantor lab business.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of sales compensation analysts and offshore resources; Serve as escalation point for issues beyond analyst authority.
  • Provide consultative support to sales leadership on diverse sales compensation issues including interpretation of compensation policies, creation of new compensation policies, communication of regulations, and resolution of disputes
  • Communicate insights about sales incentive plan administration, team performance, and plan performance to human resources, finance, and sales leadership to enhance results and service to the business
  • Collaborate with Director, Sales Compensation, on effective compensation plan administration.
  • Partner with Sales Management on analysis and reporting of territory/region alignments
  • Implement, manage, develop and utilize tools, systems, and processes to administer 40+ sales incentive compensation plans that support the North American sales organization, ensuring monthly, quarterly, and annual payment accuracy and timeliness for all participants
  • Work with finance to improve sales accrual and forecast process to adhere with financial reporting deadlines and accounting/forecast requirements
  • Plan, implement continuous process improvements of compensation processes, including territory alignments, target setting, account movements, and plan administration
  • Develop and deliver plan-specific training to relevant plan participants, new hires, sales leaders, or others in the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

  • Bachelors degree in Business/Economics/Finance/Accounting, or equivalent/applicable experience
  • 7+ years experience with progressively complex financial or compensation analysis
  • Strong analytical ability to gather and interpret data
  • Strong expertise utilizing SAP, Qlikview, and Business Warehouse
  • Highly attentive to detail
  • KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

  • Excellent interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities; supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to work across business functions, business owners and customers across levels
  • Proven ability to design, present and implement new concepts and ideas, procedures, and key performance indicators
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively complete high volume workload accurately
  • Independent, self-starter, highly motivated
  • ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)

    Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level

    Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems

    A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis

    Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs?
