We are a digital media startup positioned in the arts & creatives industry seeking an entry to mid-level digital freelance video editor to join our team on an IC, part-time basis (average 4 hours per day / 5 days per week). This role will be responsible for editing and producing video content for our digital media website and social media channels. We are primarily seeking an individual to work remotely as a desktop video editor. We seek to produce snackable video content optimized for social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. In addition, we are looking to create video versions of news stories/articles/blogs that will compliment a written digital article in video format. Such videos will run ~1-3 minutes and be comprised of 3rd party B-Roll, photos with text overlay, voice and graphic overlay, etc. There will also be opportunities for editing more in-depth, proprietary, longer-form content such as interviews and features for YouTube, etc., but the primary, day-to-day workload will be in support of social media and digital journalism content in video format as described above. Key to this position is the ability to work on tight timelines to produce video content in concert with editorial team working on breaking news and timely stories. Video Editor responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Reviewing creative brief to grasp editorial direction from Content Director's needs and specifications • Creating and/or reviewing script and raw assets to build storyboard and execute accordingly • Providing feedback on best practices to optimize production efficiency and video quality • Trim footage segments and put together the sequence of the edit • Input music, dialogues, graphics and effects • Ensure logical sequencing, storyline, and smooth running • Create rough and final cuts • Establish and optimize workflow systems for asset management, file sharing and cataloguing • Export multiple versions for different platforms and optimized resolutions • Consult with stakeholders from production to post-production process • Daily (M-F) production of two longer form edits (90 seconds to 3 minutes) • Daily (M-F) production of two snackable/teaser/meme segments for social (15-60 seconds) Preferred qualifications: • Proven work experience as a video editor (1-3 years), ideally with a journalism or marketing background • Understanding and interest in the arts & creative cultural landscape • Creative mind and storytelling aptitude • Solid experience with digital technology and editing software suites (e.g. Avid Media Composer, Lightworks, Premiere, After Effects and Final Cut, etc.) • Demonstrable video editing ability with a portfolio • Familiarity with G-Suite and Slack communication tools and ability to log onto Slack and take business calls during normal business hours (Eastern Time Zone) Monday through Friday • Must have all necessary tools to work from home: computer, video editing software, strong internet connection • BS degree in film studies, cinematography, marketing, journalism or related field preferred
